Apparel development usually starts with a fabric someone else made. Ours starts with the fibre. Engineering both woven cloth and circular knits in-house gives a brand construction, colour and finish options a cut-and-sew apparel supplier simply can't offer, and the flexibility to move quickly when a collection changes.
Two fabrics, one mill
Apparel at Somani grew out of the same vertical integration that shaped every other division. The difference is that here it covers two fabric worlds at once, woven cloth and circular knits, engineered and finished in-house before a single garment is cut.

Origin, not just an address
"Made in Portugal" gets used loosely across this industry. At Somani, both fabric worlds — woven and circular knit — are engineered, cut, sewn and finished at our own mill in Santo Tirso, Porto. Nothing is subcontracted abroad and relabelled; there's no claim here that isn't backed by the address on the door.
Product categories
Every category below draws on the same in-house woven and knit capability — shown here in sample images and video, not as a catalogue to browse.

How it's made
A closer look at the part of the process that's unique to this division: engineering both woven and knit fabric in-house, before construction even begins.
01 · Knitting & weaving
Circular knitting and weaving both happen in-house: gauge, weight and construction are open for development, not fixed to a catalogue.
02 · Cut & construction
Cutting, sewing and finishing tuned to the demands of apparel — from a simple knit tee to a structured tailored piece.
03 · Finishing & QC
Colour, hand-feel and fit checked against approved samples before a collection ships.
Development approach
There's no fixed fabric book at Somani. Every apparel programme starts as a conversation. Together with the brand, we work through gauge, weight, blend and finish until we land on the construction that fits the collection, the price point and the market it's going into.
The right fabric isn't picked from a shelf. It's built, with you.

Fashion collections move faster than most factories can follow. Because we engineer our own woven and circular-knit fabrics, we can adapt construction, weight and finish inside a season — not just colour and print — giving brands a partner who can genuinely respond to a moving calendar, not just execute one.

Questions
What brands ask us most often before starting a ready-to-wear, loungewear or tailoring programme.
How long does development take, from brief to approved sample?
A collection built on an existing fabric moves faster than one requiring a new woven or knit construction. We share a realistic timeline once we've reviewed the brief, with fabric development and garment development often running in parallel to protect the timeline.
How do we choose the right fabric construction for our collection?
There's no fixed fabric book to pick from: it's an advisory process. Because knitting and weaving happen in-house, our team works with the brand's brief (garment, price point, market) to develop gauge, weight, blend and finish together, rather than fitting the collection to an existing quality.
Can we order fabric only, without cut-and-sew production?
This depends on volume, construction and project scope, and is assessed case by case at brief stage. Most apparel projects run fabric and garment production together, under the same project management.
Tell us about your apparel project (category, target market and timeline) and we'll come back with the right next step.
