TEX4WOUNDS advanced textile wound dressings project led by Somani

Somani – Sociedade Têxtil, S.A. is the lead entity of the TEX4WOUNDS project, which is developing a range of products for the cleaning, debridement and treatment of wounds. These products are being developed with advanced textile materials, such as warp-knitted terry structures, functional fibres and natural additives for impregnation.

The product range includes dynamic, absorbent dressings that promote healing — namely a laminar-structure dressing for superficial and shallow wounds, and a core-structure dressing designed for deep, cavity-type wounds.

The goal of TEX4WOUNDS is to develop an effective, competitively priced response to wound treatment through research, technological development and innovation, taking into account the cost, the constraints and difficulties of using dressing materials, and the social and economic impact of wounds on patients, carers and healthcare systems.

The project started on 1 July 2021, with completion scheduled for 30 June 2023, and represents a total investment of €1,193,071.42. It is being developed by R&D&I teams with the skills required to ensure proper execution, maximising its results through the added value and degree of innovation of the final products.

To ensure the success of this Portuguese-flag project, a consortium with complementary expertise was created, made up of two companies (SOMANI and FOURMAG) and two entities from the Research & Innovation system: CITEVE – Technological Centre for the Textile and Clothing Industries of Portugal, and Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP).
